Iconography

What is Iconography?

Iconography refers to the use of symbols and icons to communicate information and represent ideas or concepts in interface design. Icons are graphical representations of objects or concepts that are designed to be easily recognisable and intuitive to use.

Icons can be used in a variety of ways in interface design, such as:

  1. Navigation: Icons can be used to represent different sections of an interface, such as a home button, search bar, or menu.
  2. Functionality: Icons can be used to represent different actions, such as saving, deleting, or sharing content.
  3. Feedback: Icons can be used to provide feedback to the user, such as indicating that an action is in progress or that an error has occurred.

Iconography is an important aspect of interface design, as it can help simplify complex information and make interfaces more intuitive and user-friendly. However, it is important to ensure that icons are clear and easily recognisable and that they are used consistently throughout the interface.
