What are Components?

In interface design and design systems, components are similar to modules in that they are reusable building blocks that can be combined in different ways to create consistent and cohesive user interfaces. However, components are typically more complex than modules and may include multiple modules and other design elements.

Components can be thought of as pre-designed chunks of an interface that can be easily combined to create a variety of different interface designs. Examples of components might include login forms, product cards, and content blocks, each of which may be composed of a variety of different modules and design elements.

Like modules, components are typically defined and documented as part of a design system's pattern portfolio. This may include information on the specific elements and properties of each component, as well as guidelines for how to use them in different contexts and with different types of content.

Overall, components are an important part of a design system, as they help designers to work more efficiently and create consistent and high-quality interface designs. By providing a library of pre-designed components that can be easily combined and customized, design systems help ensure that every interface design aligns with the overall brand and user experience strategy.
