Devices

Prototype

What are Devices?

In prototyping, designers often need to create designs that are optimised for different devices and screen sizes, including mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers. To do this, designers typically create designs that are tailored to specific viewport resolutions, which are the dimensions of the screen or viewport of a device.

Here is a table of some of the most commonly used viewport resolutions for mobile devices, laptops, and desktop computers:

Device Type Viewport Resolution
Mobile 320 x 568 (iPhone 5/SE), 375 x 667 (iPhone 6/7/8), 414 x 896 (iPhone X/XS/11 Pro)
Tablet 768 x 1024 (iPad mini), 1024 x 1366 (iPad Pro)
Laptop 1366 x 768 (most common), 1440 x 900 (Macbook Pro)
Desktop 1920 x 1080 (most common), 2560 x 1440 (27" iMac)

It's important to note that these are just some of the most commonly used viewport resolutions and that there is significant variation in screen sizes and resolutions across different devices. When designing for multiple devices, it's important to consider a range of viewport resolutions and to test designs on different devices to ensure they are optimised for each platform.
